OBJECTIVE
An expansion of a new product/process, to now be manufactured in this country, involved in every phase of this project, from conceptual design, to detailed engineering, purchasing, to construction, and finally to commissioning support, consisting of a new building, upgraded electrical service, additional steam capacity, and new solvent storage capacity. To reduce the environmental impact, and improve the profitability of this process, two recovery systems were also designed: an ammonia recovery and concentrating system, along with a solvent distillation system. Because of the hazardous nature of the majority of the materials used in these processes, great care was taken in the design of the building and building support systems, utilizing the latest codes and standards to help ensure the process is operated safely. The process had to integrate varying technologies and techniques from three sites around the globe. Elements from the processes in Asia and Europe were brought together to produce a code compliant American process, that utilized familiar and standardized equipment being used in the existing American plant.
